The way we perceive life is quite an interesting phenomenon. While one person may see a glass half empty, another person might see that same glass half full.

Take Kid #1, for example. This past Christmas, I gave him tons of presents, only to have him say to me that he wanted more presents. To which I responded that if he could not show an attitude of gratitude for all that he had already received, and if he asked for any more presents he would get only one present next Christmas. Then he swiftly replied that he didn’t want any more presents.

Funny how our wants are never satisfied. We always want more and more and more. While there is nothing wrong with wanting more out of life, and looking for ways to improve our lives, we need to strike the balance between searching for more, while at the same time being thankful for what we already have.

If you want to be miserable, start thinking of everything you don’t have. And if you want to get happier right now, start thinking of all the things that you have, and be thankful for them.
